The Fulfilment of the Promise and Redemption of Mankind
Text: Luke 1:26-38; Matthew 1:18-23
When Gabriel announced to Mary that she would have a son, the angel invoked a promise that had echoed throughout the Old Testament. Her son would be called the Son of the Highest and would reign on the throne of his father, David. Those familiar with the Law and the Prophets, including Mary herself, would have quickly begun to connect the prophetic dots.
“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”. Don’t worry Mary, the One who has promised already thought about how He would execute what he had said. The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you. God Himself will make this happen.
The intricate history of God’s initial promise realized so fully at Jesus’ birth indicate how much we can be confident that God is sure to bring to pass all His promises and words of prophecy that have gone ahead of us. Hallelujah!!!
In the account of the birth of Jesus as recorded in the gospel according to Matthew, the angel reveals in Matthew 1:21 thus: And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his. name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. This implies that amongst the many reasons for the fulfilment of the Promise, the greatest of them all is that Jesus will save His people from their sins and from the bondage of the devil (sin) which has held humanity hostage for years.
The only way to get this done was the way of the cross, the way of death was how we would be restored back to the Father. and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all... he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter:… for the transgression of my people was he stricken. Isaiah 53:5-8. Jesus became that lamb that was slaughtered so that we all be saved and restored to the Father. And on the cross, Jesus at the verge of death proclaimed: It is finished: John 19:30.
Hallelujah!!! My struggles are finished. The distance between myself and The Father is finished. The hold of sin and death is finished. Jesus paid the ultimate price. I am free. Glory be to God. You can say to that struggle now, it is finished. You can say to Satan and his cohort that IT IS FINISHED. Amen!
However, to enter the economy of this great work accomplished by Jesus, you must accept Him as Lord and Personal Saviour. He is calling you today into a place of rest. He loves you and wants to deliver you from every struggle and secret sins. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13.
Question of the day: What is my evidence that I am walking in the fruit of the fulfilment of this great work of Christ?
Wherever you are reading this devotional today and you are yet to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you can call upon Him now and you shall be saved. Amen.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Saviour. Amen.
